Daden Prime Sim
The following is from notes I received at the site in SL:
This demonstrator shows how Second Life can be used for real-time tracking and visualisation applications.
When you touch the map it reads a Google Earth KML/KMZ provided by fboweb.com. This feed contains data extracted form the FAA's Aircraft Situation Display to Industry system - a real-time (or 5 min delayed) feed from radars tracking civilian aircraft around major US airports.
We take the fboweb KMZ file, parse it for the data we need in SL, and then bring it into the world. The app then generates a small aircraft model for each flight in the feed, and places the model at the correct lat/long and altitude, and with the correct heading. Each aircraft is labelled with its flight number. If you touch an aircraft it also shows its route, and confirms its altitude.
You can set the model to auto-update, in which case it updates every minute - the same frequency as the fboweb feed. It updates 5 times.
For more information on the fboweb feed and their Google Earth service visit www.fboweb.com.
For more information on this visualisation, or on how to get your data into SL for display and analysis please IM Corro Moseley or email corro.moseley@daden.co.uk, or visit www.daden.co.uk.
